The last concert on Black Wolf’s tour sold out. While the brothers felt glad to be at the end of their grueling schedule, they were sad to see the last show here. It brought a bittersweet feeling. Sara, Lainie, and even Jay’s Betsy had flown in for it the afternoon before. Caleb rented a suite for the occasion. He and his brothers had an interview to go to before dinner, leaving the women to visit with each other.

Jade answered a knock on her door and found Sara standing there.

“Well, hello! I heard you’d arrived.” Jade hugged her. “It’s good to see you again. How are you and baby doing?”

Sara grinned. “We’re doing great. C’mon, I want you to meet Betsy.” She gestured down the hotel hallway toward her room.

“All right.” Jade fell in beside Sara for the short walk.

When Sara opened the door to her suite, she announced, “Look who I found.”

Lainie set her soda down and stood. “It’s so nice to see you again.” They hugged each other and then Sara pointed to a beautiful, demur Lakota woman sitting on the sofa.

“This is Jay’s girlfriend, Betsy.”

“Hello.” Jade extended her hand. Shaking it, Betsy nodded and smiled.

“Have a seat,” Sara offered. “I’ve got some cold sodas. Want one?”

“No, thanks. I’m fine.” Jade took a seat in a wingback chair and folded her hands in her lap.

“Big night tomorrow,” Lainie commented.

“Yes, it is. This place is buzzing with press, both national and international,” Jade answered. “There’re some big Hollywood names showing up for this shindig, too. I suppose you’ll be at the party afterward?”

“I usually hate those things,” Lainie said, “but I’m looking forward to this one. It means Matthew gets to come home and we can get the wedding plans finalized.”

“You must be so excited,” Betsy commented.

“I am.” She turned to Jade. “How are things going with you and Quin? Is he behaving himself?”

“It’s going just fine,” Jade answered. “Not only does he love me, but he keeps me safe.”

Something in her voice made Sara study her for a moment. “Keeps you safe? Has there been more trouble?”

“More trouble?” Lainie interrupted. “What was the first trouble?”

Jade looked at two pairs of questioning eyes and took a deep breath.

Sara intervened. “The band hired someone earlier who hurt her.”

“Hurt her?” Betsy’s sharp glance landed on Jade.

“Rape me,” Jade confessed. “Eli tried to rape me, but in the process, Quin burst through the door and almost killed him.”

“Wha…?” Lainie and Betsy drew back their heads.

“What happened?” Lainie gasped.

“They fired him and he left. But, a few weeks ago, he showed up at a promo.”

“No!” Sara leaned forward and touched Jade’s arm.

“Quin and he got into it again. From what the brothers tell me, Quin left him in a pile on the floor. Caleb and Matthew had to carry Eli out of there.”

“Were you there?” Betsy asked.

“Yeah, at first. But Jay took me to the lobby.” Jade grimaced. “And that’s what I meant by he ‘keeps me safe’.”

“My goodness,” Betsy exclaimed. “I don’t think I would have stayed after the first time.
